Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM)
A Critical Tool
Remote Patient Monitoring is a critical tool in health management, especially for the chronic conditions that are the greatest contributors to the ever-increasing healthcare costs. The ability to monitor a patient’s condition remotely not only enhances the quality of care, it also improves clinical efficiency leading to substantially reduced healthcare costs.
Remote monitoring works when a transmitter syncs with the device collecting data and sends that information to a hospital, clinic or physician’s office on a set schedule. Providers can then review and evaluate the data making timely interventions and remote follow-ups, as needed. This gives patients peace of mind knowing they’re connected with their doctor and can go about living their lives without having to travel to the doctor’s office or hospital for emergency visits.
As of January 1, 2018, Medicare will pay providers for RPM services billed under CPT code 99091. The service is currently defined as the “collection and interpretation of physiologic data (e.g., ECG, blood pressure, glucose monitoring) digitally stored and/or transmitted by the patient and/or caregiver to the physician or other qualified health care professional, qualified by education, training, licensure/regulation (when applicable) requiring a minimum of 30 minutes of time.”
Our Custom Solutions
CMS acknowledges that that RPM services are a significant part of ongoing medical care and that the Medicare program should recognize these services for separate payments. While CPT 99091 is not a newly-created code, it is now designated as a separate payable service…and one that Medicare intends to pay providers a monthly fee for delivering RPM.
CMS recognizes that RPM services is complementary to CCM and other care management services. As you enroll new patients in CCM, Mercury Global Care can facilitate your RPM program for those patients who would benefit from the service. From providing the technology to track and transmit health information, to alerting care providers of any changes that need attention, we will create a RPM plan that works for you and your patients. The MGC platform can work with multiple devices and across all ERH systems to allow you the most powerful solution for your RPM needs.
